Farrier Foundation Home Study (Online) Course Frequently Asked Questions
+Q: Do I need to take the Farrier Foundation Home Study (Online) course before attending your school?
-
A: No, it is not necessary, but it IS a good idea. It will help your preparation for attending another horseshoeing school as well.
+Q: As a horseman who wants to know how to take better care of my horses, will the Home Study course give me enough information? Are the video techniques easy enough to follow?
-
A: Yes, and Yes! Farrier Foundation gives you step-by-step instructions that demonstrate specific procedures in an easy-to-understand way. And, if you feel you need another resource to back up what you are learning on the videos, our book, Essential Principles of Horseshoeing, is included (for a limited time) in the price of the Home Study course.
+Q: How long will it take me to complete the Home Study course?
-
A: There are 6 modules. A module is released every week for six weeks. This allows you to focus on one module at a time. This is the real benefit of a Home Study course! You can take as long as you need to complete the course on YOUR own schedule.
+Q: Do I have to study the modules in order?
-
A: Yes, we recommend you do since each skill area builds on itself. We did arrange the modules sequentially to help you develop the basic skills first. We only release one module per week until they are all open. This way you do not feel overwhelmed. You can focus on one module at a time. Then, once they are all open, you can continue to go back and review. It is a good idea for you to review modules more than once. Practice makes perfect.
+Q: What farrier skill areas do the 6 modules cover?
-
A: The six modules cover the necessary skill areas to become a successful farrier, including foot skill, anatomy, horsemanship, public relations—people skill, business skill and responsibility for health.
+Q: How much money can I expect to make in a farrier business?
-
A: It depends on your level of skill—not just with horses and shoeing, but also with people. Plus, you must continue to study throughout your career in order to maintain and further develop your skills and craftsmanship. If you work hard and master all skills, there is no reason why you couldn’t make a six-figure income in an area where horses are concentrated.
+Q: Will the Home Study course give me enough skills to start my own farrier business, or will I still need to attend “regular” classroom-type horseshoeing school?
-
A: The course is designed to give you detailed, helpful information to make your decision if this is something you want to do. You still need to attend farrier school for practical training or, at least, assist another farrier in his or her business. We do recommend, however, that you attend regular farrier school after taking the Home Study course. Choose a farrier school where you will receive one-on-one training with a master farrier, for this is truly the best way to accomplish your business goals.
+Q: What are the physical demands of shoeing horses and can I do them?
-
A: It is important to research the possibility if you are physically able to do farrier work before you invest time and money into becoming a farrier. This course is designed to give you some insight and information in helping you make your decision. Working with horses takes considerable strength and stamina. If you live a mostly sedentary life, you should start getting yourself in better shape, eat a healthy diet, get enough sleep, and maintain healthy habits—before you attend a farrier school. And, if you already work with horses, continue to stay in shape and keep up with other healthy habits. The farrier business can be tough, both physically and mentally, and you’ll need your body and mind to be prepared for the challenges you’ll face.
+Q: How soon after I sign up for the Home Study online course will I be able to have access to it?
-
A: Almost immediately. As soon as we receive your order and payment, we will provide you with sign-in information that will allow you to download the course.
+Q: How does your Home Study program compare with others?
-
A: Ours is the first in the entire industry. Because of our commitment to farrier education, we decided to create an online course that would help those who are just getting started. We also wanted to provide a detailed resource for veterinarians, horsemen who want to provide the best care for their horses, horse enthusiasts, and educators.
